| March 15th to 29th April - New Exhibition - A GLASS APART
|
Until the end of April our Gallery will feature the work of 5 of the West Country’s finest glass artistswho between them use a variety of techniques to create stunning pieces of contemporary craftwork.
Gregg Anston-Race, a member of the Guild of Master Cratsmen, has a studio in Holsworthy and from here he creates fused glass designs that take inspiration from the natural, organic surroundings of north Devon & Cornwall. For Gregg, “working with glass is not just a job, it’s a passion” and this comes through in all his work from large panels to intricate jewellery.
Stained glass is the chosen medium of our second exhibitor Inka Gabrielle from Totnes. Calm light is at the center of Inka’s work. She makes lights that are kept in white opaque and opalescent glass with the inclusion of pebbles, shells, crystals, slate and antique glass. All her lamps are set on wooden bases out of ash, elm or oak and every one is finished to the highest standard. |

Sue MacGillivray works with blown glass - a skill she developed as a house designer at Dartington Crystal. Sue spent several years teaching in South Africa and her work is clearly influenced by African body adornment and woodcarving. It is characterised
by strong jewel-like colours and the reflective quality of the carved glass effects.
Steve Robinson was an established metal artist before he discovered that the medium of glass allowed far greater fluidity and spontaneity. His current work tends towards decorative abstract rather than functionality and comes in a variety of sculptural forms.
Lawrence West, our fifth artist, has recently finished an MA at Plymouth college of Art and Design where he works as the lab technician in the glass blowing studio. His work is inspired by calligraphy and the shapes found in Arabic and oriental languages. Initially Lawrence used layers of colour in his work but as his work has developed the colour has been replaced by clear glass. The work resembles sculptural, symbolic icicles.
MAKE YOUR OWN FANTASTIC NECKLACE!
