Our philosophy about food is simple. We believe in using top quality, locally sourced, seasonal ingredients, combined in simple recipes and cooked to perfection. We are lucky that in our part of the world we have some of the most productive farmland in England and a marvellously sympathetic climate. We also have a thriving and expanding local food culture that is learning how to use this combination of land and climate to best advantage. Much of the produce that now comes from our Bakery and Restaurant contains ingredients grown or reared within thirty miles of the Mill. Almost nothing is imported as we cannot see the sense in transporting tired foods half way around the world when, with a little imagination, we can conjure up superb dishes from the wealth of local ingredients available to us.

Our commitment to local produce and local growers was recognised in the 2004 & 2005 Devon Food Awards. The Mill also appears in many food guides and was specially commended in Rick Stein's 'Local Food Heroes'. Our celebrated Bakery, which prepares the bread and cakes that you can enjoy in our Shop and Restaurant, is the only one in Devon to feature in the Guardian's 'Best of British Food Guide'.
